The Local Area...

So much to see and do in the close locality...Wortley village has lots to offer ( just a few minutes drive, or you could cycle,  or why not walk along the many pictureque routes into the village (approx 30 minutes - partly up hill - less on the way down!) including :- Wortley Hall - an 18th century country mansion set with 26 acres which holds regular events, has beautiful gardens, and a restaurant and bar . The Wortley Arms Pub and restaurant has a choice of pub meals, fine dining, and real Ales and a roaring fire. Wortley Mens Club has a choice Real Ales and Cider , Sky T.V and Full Size Snooker Table -Guest membership cards may be available - enquire when booking.

Also within the village is a post office/general store/Newsagent which also supplies cycle hire .

A farm shop in the village centre produces award winning pies, sausages, burgers , and much more - open 7 days a week  A Vintage gift shop and the Countess tea-rooms are well worth a visit as is the local church - St Leonards, just across the road from the Tea-Rooms. For golf lovers the beautiful Wortley golf course is a must   Many other golf courses within 10 miles are easily accessible within the local area...5 minutes walk from the cottage is Wortley Top Forge Museum - the oldest surviving heavy iron forge in the World! (Open Feb - Nov , Sundays and bank holidays. Also Just a 5 minute riverside walk from the cottage is the local public house - The Bridge Inn, serving real Ales and Pub food , weekly quiz night and regular weekend entertainment and now a fish and chip takeaway menu!

The local area is VERY popular with Walkers and Cyclists with the Trans Pennine Trail just a 5 minute cycle ride or 10 minute Stroll from the cottage . The famous Wharncliffe woods Mountain bike route is just a few minutes cycle ride away!

Horse riding lessons and pony treks are available within just a 3 minute drive or 15 minute walk .Historic Wentworth Castle with its gardens, deer park, and tea rooms is just a 4 mile drive and open 7 days a week . For the perfect family day out, Cannon Hall has an adventure playground, Bistro, Farm shop, Animals , Beautiful gardens, and much more. and is only a 15 minute drive from the cottage! The Market town of Penistone is just a 10 minute drive away, and is the highest market town in the county. One of Yorkshires best kept secrets and well worth a visit The award winning Cruck Barn is the largest publicly accessible oak framed building in England and holds the Retail and Country Market every Thursday, and a farmers market on the second Saturday of every month. Beautiful Wentworth village is just 8 miles away with Pubs, Bistro, Garden centre and featuring Wentworth Woodhouse country house - with the largest frontage of any country house in the UK.

Further Afield...

A very popular area for visitors who love the rural lifestyle yet enjoy the close proximity to major towns and Cities and the motorway network. Sheffield, Leeds , Manchester and York are just 4 major Cities that are accessible for a day out either by car or public transport.

Also accessible for a day trip is London which is just 2 hours by train direct from Sheffield.

The very popular Meadowhall Shopping Center is just a fifteen minute drive away and provides free parking. Popular T.V Series have been filmed within the area, all of which are accessible for a day out Including Last of the summer wine, Emmerdale, and Heartbeat!
